sunday affair.

I'm not going to do a full review - I'm going to make this short and sweet considering my last post resembled an essay!!! - see I'm blabbing on already!

Had lunch with the girls on Sunday at the Gazebo Wine Gardens - Elizabeth Bay, the perfect venue for a girls' day out to celebrate our Christmas lunch and exchange KK gifts!

I know I'm a little bias with the Winery/Gazebo family but I cannot think of a better venue than this for a girls lunch. It has the food, the decor, the right drinks - white sangria all the way! The price is spot on, although we did manage to spend $70+ (excl tips) and that might be considered a little dear for "lunch", however, I wouldn't consider our appetite "normal" - 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 desserts + 3 jugs of sangria and pimms between 4 girls??? That's a bargain! So if your appetite is a lot smaller than ours then you'll be fine! ;)

The sun came out to play for a few hours so we were all dressed for Summer. Regardless of the horrendous weather, I won't be defeated and will continue to dress as if it's 30 degrees for the next 3 months!

Enjoy!

ps- I left the SLR at home so excuse the poor quality pictures!

Menu at Bentley Restaurant and Bar

course 1: Octopus with Almond and Garlic
course 2: Pumpkin custard with pumpkin seed and goats curd
course 3: Poached Mulloway with Celariac, Cracked Wheat & Black Sesame

course 4: Pork Belly with wattle, garlic milk and rhubarb
course 5: Caramelised Strawberries with Barley cream and Beer Sorbet

In Sydney, when it comes down to deciding on a nice venue for lunch, we are rather spoiled for choice.

A few weeks ago, I caught up with a close friend over lunch at The Bentley in Surry Hills. With different menu options available, we opted for the $55 per person fixed price lunch menu. The menu consists of 5 courses as pictured above.

The following menus are available at The Bentley:
  • The Main menu (À la carte)
  • The Tasting menu - $120 per person + $70 for matching wines
  • Vegetarian tasting menu - $110 per person + $70 for matching wines
  • The Bar menu
  • The Dessert Menu
  • The Dessert Tasting menu - a must for all dessert lovers
  • Fixed price lunch - $55 per person
The fixed price lunch menu is perfect for a nice lunch out in town. Although all courses on the menu were good, I'd have to say I enjoyed the pumpkin custard most - mixing the pumpkin seeds in together with the pumpkin custard, the taste was to-die-for!!!

Highly recommended, definitely one of my favourite place for lunch! What's also good about Bentley is that if you're ever too early and waiting for your guest/s to arrive, you can spend the waiting time wisely by visiting all the cool vintage op-shops nearby!

Chinatown - Friday Night Market

Apart from the shopping and the yummy (not to mention extremely cheap) street food, the one aspect that most Asian expats surely miss about being in Asia is the idea of a night market/late night shopping!
Thankfully, Western countries such as Australia welcomes multiculturalism which in turn, positively embraces the cultural differences by accommodating means to allow people to feel "at home". A perfect example of this would be Chinatown.

Every Friday night (well, don't quote me on this), there's late night markets in Chinatown, Sydney. At the markets, you will find food options such as fish/meat balls on skewers, deep fried snacks and even late night YUM CHA! They cost about $3 each and some are extremely good. My favourite would have to be the fish balls soaked in chilli oil, I am salivating at the thought as I am typing this post!

If you haven't already done so, head to the Markets this Friday. It's the perfect family night, couples night or just a random fun night out!
